Abstract:
An externally controllable thermal trip device for a varistor, comprising a varistor chip (1) and a thermal disconnector (2), and further comprising a controllable heating element (3); a trip electrode (21) of the thermal disconnector (2) is connected to an electrode (11) of the varistor chip (1) by means of a fusible welding material (4); the controllable heating element (3) is controlled by an external control terminal to generate heat and transfers the generated heat to a welding connection portion of the welding material (4) so as to melt the welding material (4) so that the electrical connection between the trip electrode (21) of the thermal disconnector (2) and the varistor chip (1) is cut off. The controllable heating element (3) is controlled externally to generate heat, so as to achieve active disconnection of the thermal disconnector (2) from the varistor chip (1). For example, when discovered that the varistor chip (1) has deteriorated or other components have aged, the controllable heating element (3) may autonomously generate heat under the control of the external control terminal, so that the welding material (4) is melted, and the thermal disconnector (2) is actively disconnected from the varistor chip (1), thereby improving the safety and reliability of a device which applies the described varistor.
