Description:
Eyeglasses having auxiliary glasses, which are easily detachable and opened in front using magnets Technical Field The present invention is about combining the function of magnets with a specific design/concept of components consisting of two bars, for easy assembly/de-assembly of a base eyeglasses to an auxiliary glasses as well as allowing the positioning of the auxiliary eyeglass in both vertical and horizontal positions. The function of the vertical position is the natural one used each time an auxiliary glasses is necessary ; the horizontal position is for allowing a practical transition in the frequent ONOFF use of the auxiliary glasses.

The combination of using magnetic power in conjunction with the design of the components is an integral part of this invention.

Background Art In general there are two types of eyeglasses having auxiliary glasses that use magnets as a means of easy attachment/detachment : One type uses a set of magnets inserted on the base eyeglasses at the front sides such as the end pieces (part that allows the assembly of the eye rims to the temples-sides), a second set of magnets are inserted in short extended and curved arms located at the outer corner-edges of the eye rims of the auxiliary glasses to allow the mating-assembly of the two eyeglasses. The second type uses magnets inserted on the bridge part of the base eyeglasses in either a horizontal or vertical plan, and second magnets are inserted in the bridge part of the auxiliary glasses allowing the mating-assembly of the two eyeglasses. This second type allows easy assembly/de-assembly of the base eyeglasses and auxiliary glasses at the bridge position however both of the existing types permit the positioning of the auxiliary glasses to one single position only ; vertical (parallel positioning of the lenses in both eyeglasses).

These types of eyeglasses have been marketed in various countries including the U. S. and JAPAN, many International patent applications have been filed under the Patent Cooperation Treaty.

The following is a description by type of the various conventional eyeglasses using auxiliary glasses.

First ; one type uses magnets inserted in a TOP side position on the base eyeglasses at the front corner-sides such as the end pieces (part that allows the assembly of the eye rims to the temples-sides) a second set of magnets is inserted on the auxiliary glasses in the end of short extended and curved arms located at the outer edges of the eye rims to allow the mating-assembly of the two eyeglasses. This type uses also on the auxiliary glasses a bridge bar-assembly, which is bent in an inverted U shape and that hooks behind the bridge bar of the base eyeglasses. This type allows easy assembly/de-assembly of the base eyeglasses and auxiliary glasses however it permits the positioning of the auxiliary glasses to one single position only ; vertical (parallel positioning of the lenses in both eyeglasses).

Second; one type uses magnets inserted on the base eyeglasses at the front corner-sides such as the FRONT and FACING OUTWARD, of the end pieces (part that allows the assembly of the eye rims to the temples-sides) a second set of magnets is inserted on the auxiliary glasses, these magnets are inserted in the log-lens mount extensions located at the outer edges of the eye rims of the auxiliary glasses and allow the mating-assembly of the two eyeglasses. This type allows easy assembly/de-assembly of the base eyeglasses and auxiliary glasses however it permits the positioning of the auxiliary glasses to one single position only ; vertical (parallel positioning of the lenses in both eyeglasses).

Third ; one type uses magnets inserted on the base eyeglasses at the front corner-side such as the end pieces (part that allows the assembly of the eye rims to the temples-sides) in the back portion of the log-lens mount ; a second set of magnets is inserted on the auxiliary glasses at the end of extended and curved-bent-hook type arms located at the outer edges of the eye rims of the auxiliary glasses and allow the mating-assembly in a drop hook fashion of the two eyeglasses. This type allows easy assembly/de-assembly of the base eyeglasses and auxiliary glasses however it permits the positioning of the auxiliary glasses to one single position only ; vertical (parallel positioning of the lenses in both eyeglasses).

Fourth ; one type uses magnets inserted on the side of the temples of the base eyeglasses; a second set of magnets is inserted on the auxiliary glasses on the outer sides-ends of short extended and curved arms that have an inverted U shaped half-box-like hooking devise and located at the outer edges of the eye rims of the auxiliary glasses and which allows the mating-assembly of the two eyeglasses, this is not an easy system for the assembly-de-assembly of the two eyeglasses, however this type permits the positioning of the auxiliary glasses to one single position only ; vertical (parallel positioning of the lenses in both eyeglasses).

Then there are eyeglasses using auxiliary glasses that do not make use of magnets but use hooks at the four corners of the auxiliary glasses to position it in front of the base eyeglasses by hooking-attaching it behind the eye rims of the base eyeglasses. This type permits the positioning of the auxiliary glasses to one single position only ; vertical (parallel positioning of the lenses in both eyeglasses).

Then there are eyeglasses using auxiliary glasses that do not make use of magnets but are assembled to the base eyeglasses by using a hinge system that can be placed in either the bridge bar or on each of the two eye rims. This type permits the positioning of the auxiliary glasses to two positions ; vertical (parallel positioning of the lenses in both eyeglasses) and Horizontal (90 degrees) BUT the auxiliary glasses in this case is not detachable from the base eyeglasses and is permanently assembled.

Disclosure of Invention The above existing combinations created the need to invent a complete and comprehensive system by which an auxiliary glasses can be used with a base eyeglasses and allow for easy assembly-de-assembly as well as vertical positioning (parallel positioning of the lenses in both eyeglasses) and horizontal positioning (opening to the front and away from the field of vision) of the auxiliary glasses.

This invention makes possible the free use of auxiliary glasses with practicality and functionality ; it allows easy assembly and de-assembly by using magnets as a bonding devise and, by using a new and revolutionary design of the two bars in both the base eyeglasses and the auxiliary glasses it permitting two necessary positions for the auxiliary glasses. It is very much this combination of using magnetic power in conjunction with the L design of one the components that makes its functions possible, and renders this system an invention.

Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention The present invention relates to a combination eyewear consisting of basic eyeglasses and an auxiliary glasses which is easily attachable/detachable and opens to the front at an angle of, or, close to 90 degrees by using the power of magnets for its mechanical function.

The complete base eyeglasses uses a bar connected to the eye rims and in which two or more magnets are inserted. The auxiliary glasses is composed of two eye rims connected by an L shaped bar in which 4 or more magnets are inserted. The design and assembly of both bars, on the complete base eyeglasses as well as on the auxiliary glasses is an integral part of this invention. The bar on the complete base frame is set on a horizontal base plan whereas the bar on the auxiliary glasses because of its L shape design can be set in both vertical and horizontal base plan. The function of this combination eyewear is for the use of combining prescription eyeglasses with sunglasses as well as all other magnifying elements used as an add on to eyeglasses. It is intended for all needs in which supplementary magnification of vision is required. The intended use covers all aspects of eyewear as well as industrial security glasses frequently used in industrial sites, therefore offering maximum practicality and ease of use of this invention. This invention by its design and assembly, in allowing the auxiliary glasses to be used in both vertical and horizontal positions makes easy the switch in the use of two vision aids without completely detaching the base eyeglasses from the auxiliary glasses ; such as when driving through a series of open roads and tunnels in which case there is a constant need of using a sunglass/clear glass eyewear, or, the need of switching between different levels of magnified vision.

Our invention provides eyeglasses coupled with auxiliary glasses and uses a bar assembling the two eye rims on the base eyeglasses 1 ; a second bar assembling the two eye rims is used on the auxiliary glasses 2.

Bar 1, has a precise and specific design la, it is positioned in a horizontal plan and is inserted with two magnets lm at a precise position 1 h, it is assembled to the two eye rims E, the addition of bar B and temples, constitutes the base eyeglasses G.

Bar 2 has a precise and specific design L shaped 2a-2b, it is inserted with 4 magnets 2m and 2m at precise positions 2h, it is assembled to the two eye rims e to constitute the auxiliary glasses g.

Vertical position of the auxiliary glasses: Because of the specific design of bar 1 and bar 2, the magnets 2m on bar 2 of the auxiliary glasses g allow for easy assembly-de-assembly to the base eyeglasses G in a vertical position by matching the magnets 1 m which are on bar 1 to the magnets 2m which are on bar 2 using the side 2a of the L shaped bar 2.

Horizontal-Open position of the auxiliary glasses: Because of the specific design of bar 1 and bar 2, the magnets 2m on bar 2 of the auxiliary glasses g allow for easy opening-closing away from the base eyeglasses G in a Horizontal-Open position by matching the magnets 1 m which are on bar 1 to the magnets 2m which are on bar 2 using the side 2b of the L shaped bar 2 Industrial Applicability : This invention while presented as applicable to eyeglasses ; it is by no means limited to being used in conjunction to eyewear only.

This invention is for the following usage: Every aspect of Industrial security eyewear.

Every aspect of sunglasses eyewear.

Every aspect of Prescription eyewear including and not limited to add on power vision, for the general use or for science and medical use, when auxiliary eyewear is needed to enhance and magnify vision.

Every aspect of facial protection that uses eyewear as a base support.

Every other industrial use that will benefit from the concept and design of our components in conjunction with magnets regardless of size nor gauge.

This invention is about the combination of a magnetic field and the use of two bars 1 and 2 using this particular L design and concept.

Using as a substitute to the magnets an iron base alloy for the manufacturing of the 2 bars and then magnetizing the two bars to achieve the same results will infringe on our invention.

Using the same concept of an L'shaped and flat-straight bars in conjunction with any form of magnetization to achieve the same results, will be considered an infringement, regardless of the industrial use, in eyewear or outside of the eyewear industry.
