Provided is a fabric formation method connecting together stitches on the edges in the wale direction of a knitted fabric on the front and back by weft knitting, in which the knitted fabric on the front and back is capable of being formed without connecting stitches when the border of the knitted fabric on the front and back is viewed from the front of the fabric. Also provided is a fabric formed by applying the method. Purl stitches (ζ, θ) are alternately formed on stitches on the edges in the wale direction of the frontside knitted fabric (20F) and on stitches on the edges in the wale direction of the backside knitted fabric (20B), and the purl stitches (ζ, θ) are weft knitted into the reverse side of the fabric. In so doing, knitting yarn, which extends from previously formed purl stitches (ζ, (θ)) to a feeder, forms the subsequent purl stitches (θ, (ζ)) after moving the feeder to intersect the front of the previous purl stitches (ζ, (θ)).
