Description:
FACIAL CLEANSER

Cross-Reference to Related Application

[0001] This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 61/870,325 filed August 27, 2013, the entirety of which is hereby incorporated by reference.

Background

[0002] This application relates to a facial cleanser product and, more particularly to a facial cleanser comprised of natural ingredients in a convenient tablet form.

[0003] Facial cleansers in the form of soaps, gels, foams, creams and lotions have been popular. Some of the cleansers are marketed for persons with oily skin, others are marketed as having exfoliating properties and still other cleansers are marketed as being hypoallergenic. None of the foregoing is of the type that may be used by virtually any person because they all contain man-made chemicals. [0004] While many of the forgoing types of facial cleansers are available in a "travel" size as well as a more standard size for home use, none of the facial cleansers are truly convenient to be carried by the user.

Summary

[0005] The present application relates to a facial cleanser created out of natural ingredients that is convenient to carry as it is preferably in tablet form. Water is added to the tablet at the time of use, but not in the context of dissolving the tablet per se, but rather wetting the hands and then rubbing the tablet between the hands so that the material in the tablet may then be applied to the face (or other skin surfaces).

[0006] As water is added to the tablet at the time of use, the dry ingredients are formed into a paste totally different than a "lather" as expected when adding water to a conventional soap.

[0007] Alternatively, a moist cloth may be rubbed against the tablet so that the cleanser in the tablet adheres to the cloth and then the cloth is applied to the skin. Detailed Description

[0008] The facial cleanser described herein is a multi-ingredient, user friendly, travel friendly product. The cleanser is a single use product in tablet form. As such it may be carried throughout the day and may be conveniently taken through airport security check points.

Categories of Ingredients

[0009] The various ingredients that may be included in the facial cleanser may be conveniendy considered to fall into the following functional categories although, as may be seen, there is some overlap since some ingredients fall into multiple categories as they perform multiple functions. The categories are cleansers, exfoliants (and that may include ingredients that remove dead cells and enhance circulation) moisturizers (and that may include ingredients that impart a glow to the skin, anti-aging (ingredients that tend to prevent the appearance of aging) blackhead removers, i.e., ingredients that assist in opening pores to remove blackheads, and ingredients that tend to remove dead skin. To explain further, some of the ingredients identified as assisting in removing dead skin are also identified as providing an exfoliation and skin-cooling and/ or circulation enhancement while other ingredients that may enhance circulation do not necessarily provide the function of removing dead skin.

[00010] The following Table 1 identifies natural ingredients within each category and, as noted above, some ingredients will appear in more than one category as the ingredient contributes to more than one function.

[00011]

Table 1

Ranges of Ingredients

[00012] The amount of each of the ingredients may be varied to enhance the effectiveness based on the functionality as describe above. Preferable ranges for each ingredient are given in Table 2 but it should be understood that the ingredients are not limited to specific ranges in the table.

[00013]

Table 2

[00014] It should be noted that a range for silicon dioxide is present in Table 2 but silicon dioxide is not listed as an ingredient in Table 1. The reason may be understood in the context of the conventional manufacture of tablets.

[00015] A tablet is a mixture of active substances and usually at least one excipient. The ingredients, typically in powder form, are pressed or compacted from a powder into a solid form. In the context of tablets not for ingestion, the excipient in general can include diluents, binders or granulating agents, glidants (flow aids) and lubricants to ensure efficient tabletting. A water soluble polymer coating may be applied to make the tablet more resistant to the environment such as by extending its shelf life.

[00016] In a conventional tablet-pressing process, it is important that all ingredients be fairly dry, powdered or granular, freely flowing, and it is beneficial but not required that the particles are somewhat uniform in particle size.

[00017] Frequendy the inactive ingredient (excipient) is called a binder and is added to help hold the tablet together and give it physical strength. A wide variety of binders may be used, some common ones include lactose, dibasic calcium phosphate, sucrose, corn (maize) starch, microcrystalline cellulose, povidone polyvinylpyrrolidone and modified cellulose (for example hydroxypropyl methylcellulose and hydroxyethylcellulose) and silicon dioxide.

[00018] Whatever process is used to blend the ingredients, the process of making a tablet by powder compaction is very similar. First, the powder is filled into a die from above. The mass of powder is determined by the position of a lower punch in the die, the cross-sectional area of the die, and the powder density. At this stage, adjustments to the tablet weight may be made by repositioning the lower punch. After die filling, the upper punch is lowered into the die and the powder is uniaxially compressed. The compression can take place in one or two stages (main compression, and, sometimes, pre-compression or tamping) and for commercial production occurs very fast (500-50 ms per tablet). Finally, the upper punch is pulled up and out of the die (decompression), and the tablet is ejected from the die by lifting the lower punch until its upper surface is flush with the top face of the die. This process is repeated for each tablet. The foregoing is one (of several) conventional tablet forming methods. [00019] The foregoing thus explains the reference to silicon dioxide in the listing of ingredients (Table 2) but not in the various categories of ingredients (Table 1). For the purpose of this application, silicon dioxide will be referred to an excipient, but reference to excipients should be understood to generally refer to at least one of the functions such as, but not limited to, enhance powder flow during the manufacturing process and/ or bind the powders together.

Exemplary Formulas

[00020] With the foregoing as a background, the following Table 3 lists 49 exemplary, non-limiting formulas. In the formulas, for convenience and not as a limitation, the amount of silicon dioxide has been maintained constant.

[00022] Based on the preceding Table 3, it should be appreciated that there is great flexibility in the choice of, and amounts of, the various ingredients. [00023] The ingredients are compressed or dry pressed into a tablet form of approximately 630.4 mg.

[00024] When it is desired to use the facial cleanser, a single tablet may be placed in the palm of the hand, a few drops of water are placed in the palm of the hand, and the tablet and water are mixed together to form a wash solution. The wash solution is thereafter applied to the face.

[00025] For convenience, the tablet may be presented in a blister pack to reduce the likelihood that the tablet will break apart.

[00026] The foregoing is a complete description of the facial cleanser however many modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of this contribution. The present invention, therefore, should be limited only by the following claims.
