Abstract:
A failure detection apparatus (1) for a particulate filter (101) is provided with: a particulate matter detection unit (20) that outputs a signal corresponding to a PM deposited amount; a sensor (2) that has a heater (3) for heating the particulate matter detection unit; a regeneration control unit (10A) that applies heat so as to achieve a regeneration temperature T which enables particulate matter to be combusted and removed by the heater while an internal combustion engine is stopped; a start determination unit (10B) that determines the start of said engine; a failure determination unit (10C) that determines whether there are water droplets in an exhaust gas while the engine is in operation; a heating control unit (10D) that applies heat so as to achieve a first temperature (T1) which enables the deposited particulate matter to remain and moisture included in the particulate matter to be removed by the heater, when the internal combustion engine has been started after regeneration control is performed and when it has been determined that there are no water droplets; and a failure determination unit (10E) that determines whether there is a filter failure on the basis of a sensor output value.
