Abstract:
Provided are a highly versatile and low-cost detection device and method whereby it is possible to efficiently detect the occurrence of failure in steep angle conveyor belts. An embedded body 2 embedded in a steep angle conveyor belt 17 has a passive IC tag 3, and a linear detection element 7 that is connected to the IC tag 3 to form a loop circuit 9. The loop circuit 9 is extended to the joint between a base belt 18 and a cleat 23 or a flange 24 (portion M to be detected), and a transmission radio wave W1 is transmitted from a detector 10 to the IC tag 3. Using the information from the IC tag 3 transmitted to the detector 10 by a return radio wave W2 transmitted from the IC tag 3 in response to the transmission radio wave W1, a calculation section 13 determines whether or not the loop circuit 9 is energized. On the basis of the determination result, the occurrence of a failure in the portion M to be detected where the loop circuit 9 is embedded is detected.
