A fastener chain comprises a pair of right and left fastener tapes (1a,1b), and a plurality of magnetic elements (11, 21) having a magnetic force wherein the magnetic elements (11, 21) have such dimensions and shapes as engaging heads (14, 24) can be fitted removably between the necks (13, 23) of adjoining magnetic elements (11, 21) on the side of a counterpart from the front and back surface direction of a tape by the magnetic force. Each magnetic element (11, 21) has a portion for permitting rotation about an axis along the width direction of a tape when the right and left magnetic elements (11, 21) engage or disengage, and the portion for permitting rotation is arranged on at least one of the front and back side surface of each magnetic element (11, 21) on the first side of a tape and the front and back side surface on the second side of a tape. With such a fastener chain, the right and left magnetic elements (11, 21) can engage or disengage smoothly utilizing the magnetic force without using a slider, and superior lateral pull strength can be ensured.
