Abstract:
In an engine equipped with an MPL-EGR system having an HPL-EGR mechanism (6) and an LPL-EGR mechanism (7), the pressure difference between the upstream pressure and the downstream pressure of a low-pressure EGR cooler (73) with which the LPL-EGR mechanism (7) is equipped is detected by a differential pressure sensor (89). When the detected actual differential pressure value is higher than a standard differential pressure value for the state wherein the LPL-EGR mechanism (7) is not blocked, and the amount of the divergence thereof reaches a prescribed value, it is determined that a blockage has occurred in the interior of the low-pressure EGR cooler (73). When the detected actual differential pressure value is lower than the standard differential pressure value and the amount of the divergence thereof reaches a prescribed value, it is determined that a blockage has occurred in the interior of piping members (74, 75), rather than in the low-pressure EGR cooler (73).
