Title:
A FAULT TOLERANT ELECTRICAL MACHINE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2011/086019
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
A fault tolerant electrical machine (40) for use in a gas turbine engine comprising: a plurality of phases (50A-D); a detector (52A, 52B, 52C, 52D) arranged to detect a short-circuit fault in at least one of the phases (50A-D); and a controller (52A, 52B, 52C, 52D) arranged to intentionally cause a short-circuit fault in at least one other of the phases (50A-D) such that the vector sum of the second harmonic power vectors of the remaining phases is zero, in order to reduce or eliminate mechanical torque ripple.
