Description:
FEEDING APPARATUS FOR CENTERLESS GRINDING OF BEARING

RINGS

Technical Field

The invention is related to a feeding apparatus which prevents the backwards toppling over of the final batch rings that are fed into the centerless grinding machine during centerless grinding operation of bearing rings.

The invention is particularly related to the usage of a secondary feeding apparatus having a spherical face which is used to prevent the faulty grinding sizes of rings, if the operator has bent the rod grasping the log, thereby bending the rings which are fed into the machine together with the log according to their driving axis, and to prevent the final batch rings that are fed into the centerless grinding machine from toppling over backwards.

Prior Art

Nowadays external bearing rings are fed between a grinding wheel and a regulating wheel by means of two drums that rotate in the same direction having an incline; such that the side surfaces of the external bearing rings that are successively aligned are in contact with each other. As there are no other rings to be fed following the final batch rings, there will be no support provided behind the rings. For this reason, the rings may topple over backwards and may break the wheels. In order to prevent this, in the present system the rings in the final batch are pushed by the operator by means of a rod and a cylindrical steel wedge, according to their driving axis and thereby are prevented from toppling over backwards.

(Figure 2) It is possible for the wedge that is in contact with the rod to be bent in a direction different from the driving axis, if the operator pushes the rod such that it is angled to an angle different to the driving axis. When the wedge is inclined the bearing rings are also inclined, therefore causing the bearing rings to be fed between the grinding wheel and a regulating wheel at an angle beyond the driving axis. (Figure 3) This undesirable situation causes the ring sizes to be deteriorated as one side of the external diameters of the rings shall be ground more.

There are some developments present in the known state of the art, that have been provide to prevent the shifting of the axis of work pieces in centerless grinding machines. For example in the CN 103894894 A Patent document which can be given as an example to these developments, a radial processing system provided in a centerless grinding machine has been described. This invention comprises a group box which fixes the successively aligned bearing rings therein; in order to ensure that the axial angle of the circular rings does not shift during the centerless grinding process. The group box ensures that the bearing rings are fixed successively and enables the rings to be fed into the grinding unit without shifting of the central angles of the rings. In the American Patent document numbered US4930260A within the known state of the art, a centerless grinding machine has been described. A spherical guide which is controlled mechanically in order to center the work piece is described in this invention. In the American Patent document numbered US4043767A within the known state of the art, a tangential feeding method of a centerless grinding machine has been described. According to this invention the work pieces are carried between two wedges via a channel in order to perform the conveying process. As it can be understood from the similar above mentioned documents different methods are being used in order to feed and center the work pieces during a centerless grinding procedure. The "feeding apparatus for centerless grinding" that has been described in this document provides a method that is different from the ones in the known state of the art and from the above mentioned documents. The feeding apparatus comprises a second wedge having a spherical face that is in contact with the cylindrical wedge used behind the cylindrical steel wedge.

Brief Description of the Invention and its Aims

The aim of this invention is to provide an apparatus for centerless grinding where the driving axis of bearing rings are maintained even if the operator is has shifted the push rod or has been holding the push rod at a different angle than the driving axis. Another aim of this invention, is to provide a feeding apparatus for centerless grinding where the second wedge having a spherical surface that is pushed by the rod, is in constant contact with cylindrical wedge from a single central point even if the operator has shifted the push rod or has been holding the push rod at a different angle than the driving axis.

The feeding apparatus provided in order to reach the aims of the invention comprises a cylindrical wedge installed behind the final batch rings, a second wedge having a spherical surface that is in contact with the cylindrical wedge at a single point and a rod that is contact with the second wedge.

A second wedge having a spherical surface is placed between the push rod and the cylindrical wedge in order to prevent the faulty production of rings. The spherical surface of the second wedge is in contact with the cylindrical wedge that is used in the prior art. However now, the wedge having a spherical surface is pushed by the rod (Figure 4). The wedge is prevented from being inclined when an angle is formed between the moving direction of the rings that are driven by the rod pushed by the operator, as the second spherical wedge is in contact with the surface of the cylindrical wedge at a single point and as it shall be acting like a knuckle. As a result the bending of the rings is also prevented and it is also prevented for the rings to be fed between the grinding wheel and the spinning wheel at an inclined angle; therefore faulty grinding of the rings is eliminated.

Detailed Description of the Invention

The feeding apparatus for centerless grinding that is provided in order to reach the aims of the invention has been illustrated in the attached figures. According to the figures;

Figure-1 is the side view of the centerless grinding machine.

Figure-2 is the partial plan view of the centerless grinding machine utilizing the cylindrical wedge only.

Figure-3 is the partial plan view where only the cylindrical wedge is used and where the operator is holding the rod at an inclined angle during the centerless grinding procedure

Figure-4 is the partial plan view where a spherical wedge is used together with the cylindrical wedge during the centerless grinding procedure

Figure-5 is the partial schematic plan view where the spherical wedge is used together with the cylindrical wedge during the centerless grinding procedure and where the operator is holding the rod at an inclined angle.

The parts in the figures have been numbered as follows; 1. Centerless grinding machine

2. External bearing ring

3. Grinding wheel

4. Regulating wheel

5. Cylindrical wedge

6. Rod

7. Drums

8. Spherical wedge The feeding apparatus subject to the invention comprises;

- A cylindrical wedge (5) which is installed behind the external bearing rings (2) in order to prevent the toppling over backwards of the final batch of the external bearing rings (2) during a grinding operation, having contact with the spherical wedge (8) at a single point in order to prevent of the axial shifting of bearing rings,

- A rod (6) which pushes the spherical wedge (8) during a grinding operation, in order to enable the spherical surface of the spherical wedge (8) to apply physical pressure on the surface center of the cylindrical wedge (5) and,

- A spherical wedge (8) having a spherical surface, wherein said spherical surface is in contact with the cylindrical wedge (5), therefore being pushed by the rod (6) and having constant contact with the cylindrical wedge (5) at a single central point.

The external bearing rings (2) are processed in the centerless grinding machine (1) in order to ensure that the external diameters of the external bearing rings (2) are provided with the desired surface roughness and size. When the diameter of the external bearing ring (2) that is to be ground and is in constant contact with the external bearing rings (2) during the grinding process and the cylindrical grinding wheel (3) used in grinding of the external bearing ring (2) by the centerless grinding machine (1), a regulating wheel (4) is provided whose position is changed whose diameter is adjusted. Moreover two drums (7) which rotate in the same direction are provided in order to ensure that the external bearing rings (2) are moved between the grinding wheel (3) and the regulating wheel (4).

A second spherical wedge (8) having a spherical surface is placed between the push rod (6) and the cylindrical wedge (8) in order to prevent the faulty production of external bearing rings (2) during a centerless grinding operation. The surface of the spherical wedge (8) that is in contact with the cylindrical wedge (5) has a flat structure. The spherical surface of the spherical wedge (8) is in contact with the cylindrical wedge (5) that is used in the prior art. The spherical surface of the spherical wedge (8) applies force on the surface of the cylindrical wedge. This pressure force is formed by pushing of the spherical wedge (8) via a rod (6) by the operator.

Even if the rod (6) pushed by the operator has a deviated angle outside of the driving axis of the external bearing rings (2) the spherical wedge (8) still continues to contact the cylindrical wedge (5) at a single surface as it has a spherical processed surface. By this means as the spherical surface of the spherical wedge (8) shall act as a knuckle between the spherical wedge (8) and the cylindrical wedge (5) the inclination of the cylindrical wedge (5) is prevented. Therefore the inclination of the external bearing rings (2) pushed by the cylindrical wedge (5) are also prevented and as a result the external bearing rings (2) are not driven at an inclined angle between the grinding wheel (3) and the regulating wheel (4) and faulty grinding thereof are prevented.

In conclusion even if the operator pushes the rod (6) and therefore the spherical wedge (8) at a wider angle different from the driving axis the driving axis of the external bearing rings (2) pushed by the cylindrical wedge (5) and the axis of the cylindrical wedge (5) itself shall not change. As a result the disadvantages of external bearing rings (2) and the centerless grinding machine (1) caused from operator mistakes are prevented.
