Abstract:
The present invention relates to a composition that substitutes for fetal bovine serum (FBS). More specifically, the composition includes an insect protein hydrolysate for use in cell cultures and when used for various animal-derived cell cultures, including human, has been confirmed to have the effects on cell growth which are equivalent or even superior to those when FBS is included while enabling a reduction in the usage of FBS, which is both costly and presents ethical issues. Therefore, the composition with the insect protein hydrolysate can be used as a substitute for fetal bovine serum and can find advantageous applications in cultured meat and various food industries that use same as an ingredient as well as in cell cultures of the bio-sector.
