Abstract:
Disclosed is a fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) spring that can prevent breakage resulting from compressive stress. The FRP spring (1) has a layered structure (the case of a three-layered structure is marked 20, and the case of a five-layered structure is marked 30) wherein a plurality of fibers having different tensile moduli of elasticity are layered. The top surface of the FRP spring (1) is the surface to which a pulsating bending load is applied; the upper region of the layered structure (20, 30) with respect to a neutral axis (S) is a compressive stress region at which compressive stress arises; and the lower region with respect to the neutral axis (S) is a tensile stress region at which tensile stress arises. The distribution of tensile moduli of elasticity in the layered structure (20, 30) is asymmetrical with respect to the neutral axis (S). In this case, it is preferable that the tensile modulus of elasticity of the layer (23, 25) that is the surface layer of the compressive stress generation region is the lowest, and the tensile modulus of elasticity of the layer (21, 31) that is the surface layer of the tensile stress generation region is set in a manner so as to be less than the tensile modulus of elasticity of the layer (22, 33) that is the neutral axis section.
