Abstract:

A fiber-reinforced rubber composition which is crosslinkable with an organic peroxide and is prepared by compounding a rubber composition prepared beforehand by mixing 75 parts of a hydrogenated NBR (iodine value, 11; acrylonitrile content, 36 %; Mooney viscosity, 120) with 15 parts of methacrylic acid and 10 parts of zinc oxide with 75 parts of a short-fiber master batch prepared by mixing 25 parts of a hydrogenated NBR (iodine value: 30 or lower) with 25 parts of polyethylene and 25 parts of short nylon fibers. The compounding of the rubber composition prepared beforehand with the short-fiber master batch is accomplished by kneading them at a temperature which is not lower than the melting point of the polyethylene and is lower than the melting point of the nylon and at a shear rate of 100 to 1,000 sec?-1¿.
