Abstract:
Provided is a fiber treatment agent which exhibits excellent adhesion to the agent application site and can improve, protect or repair the function and characteristics of the agent application site. Also provided is a method for using the same. This fiber treatment agent is either a one-component formulation comprising an effective amount of a converted protein wherein some or all of the disulfide bonds (-S-S-) in the protein are converted by at least one of sulfurous acid and a thiol compound selected from the group consisting of cysteamine, cysteine, and thioglycolic acid, and an effective amount of a reducing agent, or a two-component formulation comprising a first component containing the converted protein and a second component containing the reducing agent. The amounts contained in the first component and second component add up to the effective amount for both the converted protein and the reducing agent. The fiber treatment agent is used to improve the strength of fibers or improve disordered hair tips caused by flipped-up or wavy fibers.
