Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a novel gel that excels in physical characteristics such as toughness and elastic modulus and that has a fibrous shape, as well as a fibrous polymer material for obtaining said gel. [Solution] Provided is a fibrous polymer material having an anisotropic swelling property in water, said fibrous polymer material having a network structure formed by the crosslinking of crystalline polymers each including a polyvinyl alcohol skeleton in a main chain thereof, simultaneously displaying a) to c) in an equilibrium swelling condition in water, and simultaneously displaying d) and e) when arriving at the equilibrium swelling condition in water from a dry condition (static crystal stabilization condition). a) Orientation measured via wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS) of 80% or greater; b) water content percentage of 20-70%; c) degree of crystallization of 5-30%; d) deformation rate in long-axis direction of fibrous structure of 75-120%; e) deformation rate in short-axis direction of fibrous structure of 120-200%
