Abstract:
In the present invention a light source unit 21 includes a red light source 22r, a green light source 22g, and a blue light source 22b, and one frame interval is divided into four sub-field periods. In the blue, green, and red sub-field periods the light source for the light of the respective color emits light, and in a yellow sub-field period the red light source 22r and the green light source 22g emit light. The emission intensity of the blue light source 22b during the blue sub-filed period is set so as to be twice the emission intensity of the red light source 22r and the green light source 22g during the other sub-field periods. Color breakup is reduced by displaying the yellow sub-field, and the transmissivity of a light modulation element 16 is made 100% when a white light signal (for which the gradation of each color, red, green, and blue, is the maximum) is input, thereby increasing the light usage efficiency. Thus, it is possible to provide a field sequential method display device with which color breakup can be reduced and the light usage efficiency is high.
