Abstract:
A filter failure detection device for an internal combustion engine more accurately detects a failure of a filter (3). The filter failure detection device for an internal combustion engine is provided with: the filter (3) provided in the exhaust path (2) of the internal combustion engine (1) and collecting substances contained in the exhaust gas; a substance amount detection section (4) provided in the exhaust path (2) at a position downstream of the filter (3) and detecting the amount of the substances in the exhaust gas; a flow speed detection section (10) for detecting or estimating the flow speed of the exhaust gas passing through the filter (3); and a determination section (10) for determining that the filter (3) has a failure when the ratio of the amount of change in the amount of the substances to the amount of change in the flow speed of the exhaust gas increases as the flow speed of the exhaust gas passing through the filter (3) increases.
