Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2024/042342
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The subject of the invention is a structural arrangement and a method for the construction of a fire-resistant brim and an insulating frame around a facade opening (1). Thanks to its special design, the installation frame provides fire protection around the facade opening along with thermal insulation around it. Thanks to the top arched eyebrow design, flames escaping from the front doors and windows are deflected by the curve in the design. The installation frame is a profile extruded Al fire-resistant grade rock wool insulation, manufactured to custom-fit the size of the opening and the thickness of the masonry and facade insulation. The product thus manufactured and installed ensures fire protection and excellent thermal insulation around the opening.

AMENDED SHEET (ARTICLE 19)

Description:
Fire protection installation frame for frontal doors and windows

The subject of the invention is a pressed rock wool fire protection installation frame for the installation of frontal doors and windows. Field of application of the invention: construction industry. The installation frame with its homogeneous structure is made of pressed rock wool with fire protection class Al with a specially designed upper arch. The installation frame provides an alternative solution to reduce the fire propagation in the facade, especially in the case of polystyrene foam facade insulation systems. When using the fire protection frame, the fire protection strips in the facade can be omitted. The specially designed upper curved design deflects flames from the openings away from the plane of the facade, delaying the polystyrene panels from catching on fire as well as the spread of fire. The installation frame also reduces the value of the thermal bridging around the facade openings, improves the acoustic protection of the interior, is dimensionally accurate, can be pre-fitted, the brim can be painted ready-to-use, and has an excellent vapour diffusion quality.

There is no standardized design of the junctions around openings currently used in the building industry. Under current energy regulations, external boundary walls without frontal thermal insulation are not compliant. The most commonly used facade insulation systems are constructed with polystyrene foam insulation boards. The facades of bigger residential and public buildings usually require the use of fire-resistant bands. For plastered thermal insulation systems with a thermal insulation core greater than 10 cm, where the opening is in plane with the wall, a fire-resistance brim (fire-resistance class Al or A2) material shall be provided at least 20 cm above the facade openings, extending 30 cm beyond the opening for the full thickness of the insulation. Where the front opening is in plane with the insulation, a fire safety perimeter of at least 20 cm in width shall be constructed around the opening.

The thermal insulation of the brims may be completed following the installation of the front doors and windows The brim can be designed with a maximum of 2-3 cm of thermal insulation in the case of installation without an extension jamb, which significantly increases the value of the thermal bridging around the front opening. With an extension jamb, the thickness of the thermal insulation around the turn can have the same thickness as the thermal insulation on the facade. A third way of constructing the brims is to create a larger opening and insulate the brim around its full width. All three options result in a working gap, which is a deterioration in the quality of both fire protection and thermal insulation.

The invention aims to provide a fire-resistant installation frame for the installation of frontal doors and windows. It ensures the following: a) fire barrier around the facade openings, b) special top design to allow flames escaping from the interior to be diverted from the facade, c) by extending the eyebrow forward from the frontal plane, the spread of flames to the front is further delayed (Figure 6) d) can be fitted with a hinge-plate glued to the concave part of the eyebrow with a hot- melt adhesive to further delay the spread of the fire over to the facade (Figure 7) e) minimize the thermal bridging around the opening, f) the design of the brim without a working gap, g) extending the time of installation of the facade opening, h) acoustic insulation around the opening, i) moisture diffusion around the opening.

Tasks to be solved with the application of the invention: a) the fire-resistant installation frame provides a fire-resistant brim around the facade opening in the plane of the wall and also in the case of a facade opening placed in the plane of the polystyrene thermal insulation core since its material is pressed rock wool thermal insulation with fire-resistance class Al and its geometry is such that the part overhanging the masonry is equal to or greater than the thickness of the thermal insulation applied on the external face, with a minimum width of 22 cm, b) the role of the curved top design is to alter the direction of flames escaping through the opening or wall aperture, deflecting them away from the plane of the facade, c) as an alternative solution, the use of a heat deflecting lamina can further reduce the spread of fire in the facade, d) gap in the thermal bridging around the opening, e) a working gap-free brim design, f) delay the time of installation of the facade opening to a later stage in the construction process. g) acoustic protection around the opening. h) vapour diffusion around the opening.

Description of the diagrams: a) Figure 1 shows a front elevation drawing of the fire protection installation frame, b) Figure 2 is a side elevation view of the fire protection installation frame, c) Figure 3 shows a top sectional view' of the fire protection installation frame (section A- A), d) Figure 4 is a side elevation of the fire protection installation frame (section B-B), e) Figure 5 shows the lower section of the fire protection installation frame (section C-C). f) Figure 6 shows the top section of the protruding eyebrow of the fire brim (section A-A) g) Figure 7 shows a top section of the fire brim (section A-A) with a thermo-break-off lamina

Method of application of the invention, practical application:

The fire protection installation frame can be used for both new construction and renovation of an existing building. The openings are to be made to the size of the opening plus the thickness of the thermal insulation to be installed in the brim. The resulting opening shall be fitted wilh the fire protection frame before the facade insulation is applied. The gap between the masonry and the fire protection frame shall be sealed with a firestop PU foam sealant. The installation frame shall be customized according to the size of the facade opening, the thickness of the external masonry and the thickness of the facade insulation.

Once the fire protection frame is in place, the finishing work may be carried out, including the insulation of the facade or internal plastering and painting. The facade windows may also be retrofitted into the finished painted or plastered brim.
