Description:
Fire Protective device for stearin candles The present invention relates to a fire protective device for stearin candles.

There is an increasing incidence of fires and almost fires caused by careless handling of burning candles. Very often the real cause of fire is that the candle has been burnt so far down that it ignites a decorative ring that has been placed around the candle itself, at the bottom of this and on the candle stick. In spite of warning about the fire risk of such equipment, such decorations have been ever more popular, with a consequent danger of fire in that a burning candle that has been forgotten, burns down to the decorations instead of down to the flange of the candle stick. Such decorations may be made of various materials, such as plastics, paper and the like, and some of these are very combustible.

There is therefore a need for securing of candle sticks against fires in decorative sleeves, bows or other decorations, even if the candle as such burns all the way down.

Also in other connections is there a need for securing against fire in connection with candles burning down. Examples of this are burning candles in wreaths or various other decora- tions.

Use of stearin candles in the above mentioned situations is secured with fire protective in accordance with the present invention, as it is described with the features set forth in the claims.

The drawing shows on figure 1 a vertical section of a fire proofing device for candles in accordance with the present invention, fitted in a special candle stick and with an inserted candle, figure 2 shows a vertical section of another embodiment of the invention, used in the regular candle stick, figure 3 shows an embodiment with the device used as a table model, and figure 4 shows an embodiment adapted for use on wreaths etc.

The device is made of non-combustible materials, for example brass, copper, iron or other metals.

An shown on the figures, the fire protective device comprises a funnel shaped cup 1, whose lower end bore in a substantially cylindrical part 2 provides a holder for a candle

3.

The fire protective device includes an outward extending collar or flange 4 which keeps decorative sleeves or the like away from the candle, so that the decorative sleeve does not ignite when the candle burns down.

It may be appropriate that the cup 1 contains water around the candle, so that stearin that melts or runs or falls down hardens rapidly without polluting the inside of the cup 1. The fire protective device according to the present invention will, however, prevent fire even without water in the cup 1.

The decorative sleeve 5 is accommodated between the outward extending flange 4 of the device and the flange 6 on the candle stick 8, and ensures that the decorative sleeve lives up to its aesthetic purpose, but that the sleeve at the same time cannot be ignited by the candle.

The fire protective device according to the present invention can have various forms at the foot, for example can the cup 1 on the embodiment shown on figure 2 have outside threads in the portion 2 that with the corresponding inside threads in the candle stick 8 ensures that the cup 1 can be fasten in the candle stick. Further, the fastening in the candle stick 8 is achieved by the fact that the portion 2 of the cup 1 and the candle stick inside have corresponding vertical grooves that facilitates insertion and secures the cup 1 in the candle stick 8.

Figure 2 discloses an embodiment of the cup according to the present invention adapted to be inserted in a existing candle stick 8 that is not especially prepared to receive an protection device according to the present invention. The device has at its lower end a neck 9 adapted to be inserted in the candle holder of the candle stick. The neck 9 can appropriately be screwed to the cup 1 with a threaded stud 7.

Also figure 3 discloses an embodiment in which a foot 10 is fasten to the cup 1 with a threaded stud 7 for placement of the cup 1 direct on a base, with the decorative sleeve 5 placed between the flange 4 of the cup 1 and the foot 10.

The protective device according to the present invention can also be used in other connections, for example can the device be used with advantage in wreaths, in that a steel wire is fasten to the bottom of the cup 1 and tightened to the other side of the wreath. The cup 1 can also be provided with points or spikes 11, that can be pressed down in oasis which are often used in connec- tion with the decorations of various types. With such spikes 11 in the bottom, can candles stand securely in decorations.
