Five-membered fused heterocyclic azepine derivatives represented by general formula (I) or pharmacologically acceptable salts thereof, wherein R1, R2, R3, R4 and R6 represent each hydrogen or lower alkyl; R5 represents hydrogen, lower alkyl or phenyl; A1 represents oxygen, sulfur or -NR7-; A2 represents -CR8R9- (wherein any one of R8 or R9 represents hydrogen with the other representing hydrogen, hydroxyl or lower alkyl); and A3 represents oxygen, sulfur, -NR11-, or a single bond; and Z represents halogeno, a heterocyclic group or the like. These compounds are excellent as prophylactic or therapeutic agents for vasopressin-related diseases, for example, congestive heart failure, edema, particularly cerebral edema, syndrome of inappropriate secretion of ADH, hypertension, etc., and as a diuretic.
