Description:
FIXING AND ASSEMBLING APPARATUS FOR FURNITURE

Technical Field

The invention relates to a combination that allows for assembling and detaching furniture items with/from a variety of casual household and workplace articles like drawers, wall shelves, bookcases, wooden crates, closets etc. by means of pins, while holding all parts in balance and strong enough to maintain their horizontal or vertical integrity throughout the process.

Current State of the Art

For a long time, furniture fixing practice employed traditional methods that involve the nailing of parts intertwined, or bonding them together by means of adhesives or assembling with the use of bolts and screws. Whenever the requirement arises for handling or dismantling any or group of parts for reuse in a variant design, such procedures as nailing, bonding or screwing are performed, which recurrently, entail to problems with rejoining thereof and damage the final production. Nowadays, the current trend amongst manufacturers and customers is increasingly towards new and alternative furniture fixing and assembling apparatuses, designed for ensuring a sound and balanced embodiment of furniture items as desired.

In the current state of art, the said fixing and assembling apparatuses are used for assembling furniture items. These tools often require customer/buyer access to hard- to-reach corners when assembling long furniture parts in a perfect match with one another, to insert and tie screws with bolts to hold the entire body steady and together. This translates in hardships on the part of the customer, whenever an attempt is made towards joining or breaking furniture items into parts with the use of a screwdriver and takes a lot of time during the assembly procedure.

In the current state of art, the said fixing and assembling apparatuses employ components that are fitted to the furniture using screws. The practice will designate each individual screw insertion point one after another to receive subsequent application of screws, which is also performed separately for each screw. In the event that screws are not fitted in place firmly, it becomes literally impossible to assemble the furniture in a whole. This causes an undesirable deformation in aesthetics and deviation from good-looking aspects of the furniture, in the aftermath of the screw reapplication and assembling procedure.

In the current state of art, the so called shelving apparatuses as mentioned for use in similar situations employ a method that involves the drilling of the shelves from within one after another and then placement and positioning of a dowel pin, cut to suitable length, at each row of vertically and horizontally straightened openings thus created, to connect the two opposing apertures together in perfect alignment to the ground and to one another. This usually prevents disassembling and subsequent re- installation of shelf parts together by the customer/buyer, both during and after transport.

In the current state of art, the fixing and assembling apparatuses mentioned for use in similar situations are mounted to the parts in such a manner that they are screwed internally, by intersection of apparatus components. These apparatuses are small in size, thus cover a very little part of the shelf parts. This prevents the shelves from retaining integrity and endurance and causes them to eventually fall apart when a heavy payload is exerted thereon.

In the current state of art, the said fixing and assembling apparatuses employ metal components. Metal components are known for being susceptible to corrosion by the rising levels of moisture in highly condensed air. Corrosion, in turn, is a process which entails to wearing of metal joining apparatuses and causes deformations in their overall look and shape. This results in transformation of metal components into a bad shape, attributable to the wearing effects of time on the individual shelves, lowering their bearing capacities dramatically and an eventual falling apart of the furniture.

Finally, the furniture fixing and assembling apparatus, which constitutes the subject of our invention is expected to fill in the gaps caused by all prescribed odds and adversities, and accordingly prevent the increasing extra cost burden on customers in the examples cited above until this point, by its nature and capability to properly address and effectively eliminate all mentioned drawbacks. Summary of the Invention

The present invention relates to a system and method of a furniture fixing and assembling apparatus that, in addition to fulfilling the above requirements, totally removes all predictable disadvantages and drawbacks, while bringing certain additional advantages, in implementation.

The first and foremost objective of the invention is to prevent damage coming to parts of furniture items in time of a removal / refitting procedure of the fixing / assembling apparatus.

Another purpose of the invention is to present and provide a delicate fixing and assembling procedure for customers to follow with discrete ease and comfort by simply adapting and mounting a furniture fixing and assembling apparatus, of the type forming the subject of this invention in its preferred embodiment to the furniture, in both vertical and horizontal directions.

A further purpose of the invention is to allow for locating the assembling apparatus fitting positions on parts to be used for assembling the furniture quite easily and ensure that the dowel pin, used as the insertion pin, easily connects together the two opposing apertures on all rows of the shelf pieces.

A further purpose of the invention is to allow for manufacturing the fixing and assembling apparatus inserts to be placed on parts used to assemble furnitures of metal and thereby lowering costs of production.

Another purpose of the invention is to avoid any potential doubt or conflicts as may occur in time of assembling procedures by providing identical right or left-hand sides in a raw of opposing mounting pieces placed on furniture to be assembled using the apparatus. A further purpose of the invention is to allow for holding the entire body of furniture together and intact throughout the fixing / assembling procedure, by preventing furniture to fall apart by tightening either of the two identical parts of the pin used to fit the assembling apparatus on furniture body parts. Another purpose of the invention is to allow for providing a fixing and assembling apparatus that is suitable for use on any wooden surfaces, independent of the size, dimensions and type of furniture on which it is intended to be mounted, be it a bookcase, a shelf or any other item of furniture. Another purpose of the invention is to prevent accidental exertion of additional load on support posts that bear the bookcase, closet, drawer or shelves, as appropriate, thanks to the plastic material used in manufacture of the furniture fixing and assembling apparatus.

A further purpose of the invention is to allow for providing additional load bearing capacity of the furniture part under treatment, by means of the rectangular design of the furniture assembling apparatus with two long arms, to cover a broader area.

Description of the Invention in Detail

This section describes the furniture fixing and assembling apparatus in its preferred embodiment and the system and method in which it is designed, in such a manner that guarantees a better insight to the concept, while avoiding to impose any limiting, restraining effect upon the readers. The fixing and assembling apparatus for furniture, which forms the subject of the invention consists of the apparatus itself (1 ), a screw hole (2) to hold apparatus fixing screws to be inserted on furniture surfaces by means of pins (4), a fixing pin protuberance that ensures fitting of parts to one another properly (3) and a pin (4) that passes in-through and interlocks the parts together. The apparatus consists of two identical parts.

The screw hole (2) ensures that the fixing and assembling apparatus for furniture (1 ) is mounted on items of furniture, using screws. These holes are supplied in at least one pair. They exist on both of the two apparatus parts, but their numbers may vary depending on the actual size of the furniture fixing and assembling apparatus (1 ) to be used.

The fixing pin protuberance (3) is a piece meant for seating of parts of the apparatus with proper placement and positioning relative to one another. They exist on both of the two apparatus parts, but their numbers may vary depending on the actual size of the furniture fixing and assembling apparatus (1 ) to be used. The pin (4) allows for insertion and pulling in-through identical parts to fit both parts together, as the final step of the assembly procedure.

The pin (4) serves as a fitting which enables the mounting of one apparatus onto another, which is identical in all aspects with the latter. It ensures that the identical apparatuses stay intact and together, without accidentally breaking apart or getting detached.

The working principle of the furniture fixing and assembling apparatus (1 ), which forms the subject of the invention starts with application of screws through the screw holes (2) made at predetermined locations on furniture surfaces for the mounting of the apparatus. The apparatus is screw mounted on furniture parts in perfect alignment to one another, so that they can pair in a match when combined together. When furniture parts are combined together, the assembling apparatus engages upon becoming one and the parts are clinched by setting the pin (4) in position between them by means of the fixing pin protuberance (3). When dismantling of furniture items becomes of requirement, the pin (4) is removed to conveniently handle and finish the process, all at once. This is how the fixing and assembling apparatus for furniture (1 ) works.
