Abstract:
A fixing device comprising: a heating unit that provides non-contact heating of a surface of a recording medium; a transport unit that faces the surface towards the heating unit and transports the recording medium; and a maintenance unit that maintains the non-contact state such that a rear surface, being the opposite side to the surface and being inside an image area in which an unfixed image is formed on the surface, is in a non-contact state and the recording medium is transported in said state by the transport unit.
