Abstract:
An example fixing device comprises a heating belt, a magnetic permeability detection device, a displacement pattern calculation device, an anomaly determination device and a processor. The heating belt includes an endless belt having a metal layer and a heat source. The magnetic permeability detection device is located adjacent the heating belt, to detect a magnetic permeability from the metal layer of the heating belt. A displacement pattern calculation device calculates a current displacement pattern of magnetic permeability per perimeter of the heating belt based on variations in the magnetic permeability detected. An anomaly determination device compares the current displacement pattern with a previous displacement pattern having been previously calculated. The anomaly determination device determines an anomaly in the heating belt, when the current displacement pattern is different from the previous displacement pattern. The processor prompts an operation to be performed on the heating belt when the anomaly determination device determines the anomaly.
