Abstract:
A flame retardant which comprises a graft copolymer (A) obtained by graft-polymerizing one or more vinyl monomers with a composite polymer comprising a polyorganosiloxane containing aromatic groups and a vinyl polymer. The flame retardant is obtained by radical-polymerizing a vinyl monomer in the presence of a latex of a polyorganosiloxane containing aromatic groups to form a composite polymer, graft-polymerizing one or more vinyl monomers with the composite polymer to give a graft polymer latex, and recovering the graft polymer as a powder from the latex. The flame retardant is compounded with a thermoplastic resin to impart flame retardancy to the resin.
