Abstract:

Provided are a flat cable that is easily bent in the width direction and a production method therefor. The flat cable (FC) comprises a plurality of conductors (10) extending in the axial direction and an insulating sheath (20) that covers these conductors (10) in a state in which same are lined up in the width direction. The insulating sheath (20) has an expansion section (24). The expansion section (24) expands in the thickness direction orthogonal to the axial direction and the width direction, so as to be separated towards the outside from the outer peripheral surface of each conductor (10). As a result, an internal space permitting relative displacement between the conductors (10) is formed. This flat cable (FC) can be produced by: arranging a die having an inner surface including a section having a shape expanding to the outside in the radial direction around the flat cable element; heating the insulating sheath (20) inside the die; having a pressure difference applied inside and outside the die; and forming the expansion section (24) having a shape following the inside surface of the die.
