Abstract:
A flat panel display substrate exhibiting a high heat-resisting property, a thermal expansion coefficient that is similar to that of a thick film dielectric layer, and a low reactivity, at high temperatures, with a thick film dielectric layer containing lead, and being able to be so prepared as to have a large area. The substrate is prepared by burning a compact containing glass powder and filler comprising metallic and/or submetallic oxides. The substrate has a crystalline phase and comprises a sintered body exhibiting an average linear expansion coefficient of 7 to 9.5 ppm per degree centigrade between 25 and 70 degrees centigrade. The glass powder contains alkaline-earth oxides, and its silicon oxide content is 15 to 50 percent by mass and its boric oxide content is less than two percent by mass. In the compact, the filler content relative to the total amount of the glass powder and filler is 10 to 30 percent by volume.
