Title:
FLAW DETECTION SYSTEM
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2002/021120
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A flaw detection system that uses a simple network configuration to find such a break as in a railway rail. A detector unit (20, 50), relay units (30A, 30B, 60A-60C) and a terminal unit (40, 70) are arranged along a rail (11, 11A, 11B). An ultrasonic signal transmitted from the detector unit (20, 50) through the rail (11, 11A, 11B) is relayed by the relay units (30A, 30B, 60A-60C) and passed to the terminal unit (40, 70). The ultrasonic signal received by the terminal unit (40, 70) is returned to the detector unit (20, 50) through the relay units (30A, 30B, 60A-60C), and it is determined whether any break exists in the rail (11, 11A, 11B) based on the state of reception of the ultrasonic signal at the detector unit (20, 50).
