Abstract:
Provided is a flexible pipe insertion apparatus that has a flexible pipe to be inserted into an insertion receiving body. This flexible pipe insertion apparatus has: a rigidity variable unit that is arranged in the flexible pipe and that can vary the bending rigidity of the flexible pipe; a rigidity variable driving unit that drives the rigidity variable unit; a rotation detection sensor that detects the rotation of the flexible pipe about a center axis; and an insertion shape detection sensor that detects the bent shape of the flexible pipe. When the flexible pipe is loop-shaped and rotates about the center axis thereof on the basis of information about the rotation detected by the rotation detection sensor and information about the bent shape detected by the insertion shape detection sensor, a rigidity variable control unit drives the rigidity variable driving unit so as to increase the bending rigidity of the rigidity variable unit.
