A floating structure coupling system and a retaining system using this coupling system are provided which are able to suppress movement of floating structures towards and away from each other on the vertical axis of the floating structures without generating excessive stress in the coupling system. The systems comprise two floating structures (10) spaced apart from each other, a first horizontal link (20) disposed substantially horizontally on the water surface and connected horizontally by pins at both ends to each of the two floating structures, and a second horizontal link (30) spaced apart in the vertical direction but parallel to the first horizontal link (20) and connected horizontally by pins at both ends to each of the two floating structures. A parallelogram-shaped link (40) is formed by the two floating structures, the first horizontal link and the second horizontal link which keeps the vertical axes of the two floating structures parallel to each other even when the two floating structures rise and fall relative in a relative sense and even when the two floating structures become tilted.
