Abstract:
The objective of the present invention is to provide a measuring method with which it is possible for a flow velocity distribution in a flow field within a flow passage in an optical cell to be measured simply and accurately, and to provide a method of measuring particle size using the same. According to the present invention, a device includes a laser light radiating unit which radiates laser light having a wavelength λ into a flow path, a camera which images the inside of the flow path into which the laser light has been radiated, and an analyzing unit which obtains a distribution of flow velocities in a flow field from at least a plurality of images captured at predetermined time intervals Δt with an exposure time τ. Tracer particles having a diameter smaller than the wavelength λ of the laser light are sent into the flow path, and the camera captures images of light scattering bright spots resulting from the tracer particles. The analyzing unit obtains amounts of movement of each tracer particle from movements of the bright spots, and corrects a Brownian motion component from a correlation between the average value of the variability of the amounts of movement, and Brownian motion, to obtain the flow velocity distribution. Further, a corrected displacement is obtained by removing the flow field movement component resulting from the flow velocity distribution from the displacements of the particles being measured, to provide the particle size of the particle being measured.
