Abstract:
Provided is a fluorinated ether compound, which can be used advantageously as a lubricant material for a magnetic recording medium, the lubricant material being capable of forming a lubricant layer having excellent chemical resistance and abrasion resistance even when thin. The fluorinated ether compound is characterized as shown in formula (1). R1-R2-CH2-R3-CH2-R4-R5 (1). (In formula (1), R3 is a perfluoropolyether chain. R2 and R4 are divalent linkage groups each having a polar group, and may be the same or different. R1 and R5 are terminal groups bonded to R2 or to R4, and may be the same or different. At least one of R1 and R5 is a group in which one or more hydrogen atoms in a C1-C8 organic group is substituted with a cyano group.)
