Abstract:
A composition comprising hydrogen fluoride and a compound which is liquid in the normal state (25°C, 1 atm), has a boiling point of 120°C or higher, and has a pKa at 25°C of 12 or higher; and use of the composition as a fluorinating agent. The compound is preferably one represented by general formula (1) (wherein R¿1? to R¿4? may be the same or different and each represents (un)substituted alkyl or aryl, provided that R¿1? and R¿2? or R¿3? and R¿4? may be bonded to each other to form a ring containing one or more nitrogen atoms or containing both one or more nitrogen atoms and one or more other heteroatoms, and that R¿1? and R¿3? may be bonded to each other to form a ring containing one or more nitrogen atoms or containing both one or more nitrogen atoms and one or more other heteroatoms). The fluorinating agent acts by the same reaction mechanism as hydrogen fluoride. When used in the halogen exchange reaction of a halogenated organic compound, the fluorinating agent enables a fluorinated compound to be safely and easily produced without the need of a special apparatus or technique.
