Abstract:
Provided are a focal point detection device and a focal point detection method enabling rapid focusing even for a largely defocused subject. A focal point detection device receives and photoelectrically converts a subject image divided into two images; executes a correlation operation on the basis of the pixel data in a standard portion and a reference portion corresponding to a prescribed AF area; and calculates a defocus amount. The focal point detection device includes a plurality of filters which has different frequency characteristics and filters the pixel data. The focal point detection device detects the contrast of subject image data consisting of a plurality of pixel data (S7); selects any one of the plurality of filters in accordance with the detection result (S9 to S13); and calculates the defocus amount by executing the correlation operation on the pixel data in the base portion and the reference portion on the basis of the pixel data that was filtered with the selected filter (S15).
