Abstract:
A focus adjustment device (1) is provided with a plurality of autofocus (AF) areas, and the device repeatedly detects the defocus amount of the AF areas, and adjusts focus by selecting an AF area on the basis of the defocus amounts. The focus adjustment device (1) is provided with at least one circuit (216). The circuit (216): calculates a moving-body prediction formula on the basis of the history of the repeatedly detected plurality of defocus amounts; carries out a first determination as to whether the moving-body prediction formula was satisfied, and a second determination as to whether the drive direction of a focus lens (1021) found from the moving-body prediction formula is the near-side direction or the infinity direction; and selects the AF area indicating the defocus amount which is closest to the moving-body prediction formula, in a case where it was determined that the moving-body prediction formula was satisfied in the first determination, and that the drive direction was the near-side direction in the second determination.
