Abstract:
The present invention is capable of allowing an image pickup device to detect a focus at a high speed.
When a search range for searching a focusing position is supplied, a lens control section causes a lens to move to a plurality of positions in the search range sequentially. Every time when the lens moves to each of the positions, a focusing position search section obtains an image contrast generated by the lens, and searches a focusing position based on each contrast. A search range setting section obtains a distance to a subject whose image is to be picked up by the lens, supplies a search range set based on the distance thus obtained to a lens control section. If the search of the focusing position fails in the search range thus supplied, the search range setting section obtains the distance again, and supplies a search range reset based on the distance to the lens control section.
