Abstract:
Provided are a focusing apparatus and a focusing method that are capable of ensuring focusing by determining a true image deviation amount at a high speed even for an object having a cyclic pattern. The present invention performs a focusing operation by: setting, in an imaging region, a first focus detection region and a second focus detection region that is narrower than the first focus detection region and that is included in the first focus detection region; calculating a phase difference (Cor_x1) on the basis of imaged data of the first focus detection region; calculating a phase difference (Cor_x2) on the basis of imaged data of the second focus detection region; when an object is determined not to be a cyclic object on the basis of the correlation degree of the first focus detection region but determined to be the cyclic object on the basis of the correlation degree of the second focus detection region, selecting a phase difference (D10) closest to a phase difference (Stmin) that is detected in the first focus detection region, among a plurality of the phase differences detected in the second focus detection region.
