Abstract:

The purpose of the invention is to provide a leaf-type foil bearing with which high rotational precision is obtained and which is able to handle further increases in rotation rate. The foil bearing (10) is provided with: a cylindrical outer member (11); a shaft (6) inserted in the inner circumference of the outer member (11); and leaves (14) disposed at multiple sites in the circumferential direction between the inner circumferential surface (11b) of the outer member (11) and the outer circumferential surface (6a) of the shaft (6). The region of each leaf (14) that comprises the front edge (14a) forms a top foil (Tf) having a bearing surface (14c). The region of each leaf (14) that comprises the back edge (14b) forms a back foil (Bf), which supports the top foil of the adjacent leaf from behind. Either or both the front edge (14a) and the back edge (14b) of each leaf (14) are inclined with respect to the axial direction.
