Description:
FOLDING CAMPING TRAILER

Description Field of the Invention

The useful model relates to mobile transport equipment, particularly to mobile camping trailers.

Prior Art

There is a folding camping trailer with hard walls currently in use (Esterel, France).

The scheme of folding of this trailer in the shape of an envelope doesn't make it possible to reduce its size, apply automatic unfolding, make it a two-tier structure; therefore it has a considerable length and few sleeping berths.

There is a folding camping trailer for a motor car currently in use. The trailer has a frame with a wheeled cart on which the trailer body is located with a set of elements for the kitchen, with luggage compartments, sleeping berths and a clothing cabinet; it has a beam with a bathroom unit and compartments for life support systems; it has ground supports and a braking system, the body consists of two boxes butt-jointed with each other with the possibility of lifting the upper box and filling the aperture in the body walls with panels; the bathroom unit consists of two parts with one of them installed on top of the other with the possibility of lifting the upper part; the trailer has a lifting device for lifting the upper box and the upper part of the bathroom unit installed on the lower box and a door on the lower box wall with the possibility of increasing its vertical size (RU 44603).

There is a camping trailer currently in use containing a carcass formed by columns connected with the roof. On the sides of the trailer body frame main side platforms are hinged with the possibility of rotary motion in the vertical plane and their fixation in the operating position by a fixation device. On one of the end sides of the trailer body frame at least one butt-end platform is hinged with the possibility of rotary motion in the vertical longitudinal plane and its fixation in the working condition by support devices; on the sides of the butt-end platform additional side platforms are hinged with the possibility of rotary motion in the vertical diametrical plane, their width is equal to the width of the main side platforms. Each fixation device of the butt-end platform is formed by a rest, one end of which is hinged to the trailer body frame and the other one installed with the possibility of movement in a slideway which is fixed to the outer side of a corresponding side platform. The roof is formed by crossbeams hinged to the upper ends of the table, it is enveloped in the operating position by a tent on top that forms in the operating position butt-end and side faces of the living area (RU 2006391).

The shortcomings of the units described above are their large sizes and heights during transportation and few sleeping berths. They are difficult in operation when connected to a motor car.

The trailer most similar to the trailer put forward is a folding trailer consisting of a utility module and a living module and having a base installed on the undercarriage, wall panels hinged to it and the roof; transverse wall panels hinged to the body and a transverse partition panel between the modules, and the second tier berth panels connected to the transverse partition panel and the rear transverse wall panel and located with the possibility of their folding along hollows in the indicated transverse panels, as well as means for unfolding the panels (SU 1299857 prototype).

The indicated arrangement provides two-tier disposition of the berths due to the hinging of the halves of the second-tier berths to the transverse panes, but during operation it doesn't make it possible to disengage the halves of the berths and disassemble them or bring them into vertical position and, if necessary, to obtain more free space within the trailer as the halves of the second-tier berths bound by a lock with the transverse panels, body and the couplings, form the load-bearing structure of the trailer and in case of their disengagement the structure will lose stability due to the loss of the expansion element - the halves of the berths. Besides, non-use of the internal cavities of the transverse panels doesn't make it possible to decrease the height of the trailer during transportation and make it compact.

At the present time due to the existing deficit in fuel and the desire for easier control during transportation there is a need for small and compact folding trailers that would take up little room.

Summary of the Invention The engineering problem of the useful model is the creation of a trailer construction that would be compact, easy to use, large-sized during operation and small-sized during transportation. The assigned task is solved through the following solution: the cavitated transverse panels bearing load from the roof and the longitudinal panels and containing the halves of the berths, doors and additional panels are attached to the trailer body after opening and create a firm carcass. The said solution makes it possible to disassemble the berth halves, doors, additional panels etc. without damaging the load-bearing structure of the trailer, improve rear view and simplify control of the car in conjunction with the trailer.

The concept of the invention is the following: a folding camping trailer consists of a utility module and a living module, has a base installed on the undercarriage, longitudinal wall panels hinged to it and the roof; transverse wall panels hinged to the body and a transverse wall panel between the modules, and berth panels of the second tier connected with the transverse partition panel and one transverse wall panel and located with the possibility of their folding along hollows in the indicated transverse panels, as well as means for unfolding the panels; the transverse partition panel and the transverse wall panels are equipped with devices for fixation to the body in the vertical position, and the indicated hollows of the transverse panels are cavities whose depth is equal to at least the thickness of the berth panels for folding the latter into these cavities.

In a preferred embodiment of this invention the devices for fixation of the transverse panels to the body in the vertical position comprise mechanical locks with folding latches or power cylinders; in the rear transverse wall panel there are windows with the doors of removable cabinets located on the inside of the windows; the cases of the cabinets are located outside the trailer module; the transverse panels are equipped with expansion and fixation mechanism for connection with the roof in the vertical position, the expansion and fixation mechanism may comprise a collapsing hinge; the panels of the second-tier berths are located on either side of the passageway and are equipped with supporting devices from the following group: supports, bracings, longitudinal removable elements with butt-end locks; the means for unfolding the panels into the operational position comprise a manual frame with a winch or power cylinders, and the transverse partition panel comprises two component doors, the upper and the lower part of which are installed with the possibility of rotation into the modules; the rear transverse wall panel comprises a door installed with the possibility of rotation outside. As shown in Fig. 1, the folding trailer contains a box-like body 1, longitudinal wall panels 2 hinged to it and hinged to the roof 3. Transverse wall panels 4, 6 and the panel 5 of the transverse partition are hinged to the body 1. Panels 7 of the second-tier berths are hinged to the panels 5 and 6; after bringing the panels 5 and 6 into transport position panels 7 are folded along the cavities 29 and fully enter the cavities 29 in the panels 5 and 6. The cavities 29 have a wall along the whole square perimeter and the depth which is at least equal or more than the thickness of the panels 7 for folding of the panels 7 into the cavities 29 in the transport position. Berths 8 of the lower tier are located in the lower part of the body 1 and the living module I. The panel 6 contains windows; removable cabinets are attached from the outside to the construction of these windows; in the transport position the cabinets are located on the floor between the lower berths 8. As shown in Fig. 1, 2, and 3, the panel 10 is hinged to the inside of the panel 4; in transport position the panel 10 is fully retracted into the cavity 30 of the panel 4 and during operation is combined with the immovable partition 11, and, together with the panel 12 and the upper part of the door 13 that are hinged to the panel 5 and the lower part 20 hinged in the aperture to the body 1 form the module III of the trailer. The cavity 30 has a wall along the whole square perimeter and a depth which is at least equal or more than the thickness of the panel 10. In the same aperture the upper part of the door 14 is hinged to the panel 5; and the lower part of the door 19 separating the living module I from the utility module II is hinged to the body. The upper part of the outer door 15 is hinged to the panel 6 in the upper part of the aperture. The lower part of the outer door 16 is attached to the body 1. The doors 17 of the cabinets 9 are attached to the windows from the inside of the panel 6. Fig. 4 illustrates the scheme of lifting by the power cylinder 18 fixed on the body 1 of the roof 3 with longitudinal panels 2. Fig. 5 illustrates side view of the camping trailer folded into transport position with section along the longitudinal panels. Fig. 6 illustrates the front view of the camping trailer in the transport position. Fig. 7 illustrates the elevation of the frame 21 into vertical position and the Fig. 8 illustrates the elevation of the roof 3 with longitudinal panels 2 with the help of the winch 22. As shown in Fig. 9, the automatic elevation of the roof 3 with longitudinal panels 2 is done by the lift 18, and the elevation of the transverse panels 4, 5 and 6 — by the lifts 23. The halves of the second- tier berths 7 can be supported in the horizontal position by the supports 24 and/or the braces 25 and/or by resting on removable longitudinal supports 26 with butt-end locks 31. The attachment of the support 26 to the transverse panel 6 is illustrated in Fig. 10 of the removable element A, illustrated in Fig. 9. The panels 7 of the second-tier berths are located on either side of the passageway to the door 15. The location of the panels 7 on the supports 26 is shown in Fig. 11 of the section B according to the Fig. 9. The fixation of the transverse panels 4, 5, 6 in the vertical position with the help of a device of fixation to the body 1 comprising the mechanical lock 27 with a folding latch is illustrated in Fig. 12 of the detachable element B according to Fig. 9. The operation scheme of the expansion and fixation mechanism 28 with a collapsing hinge during joining of the panels 4-6 with the roof 3 in the vertical position is illustrated in Fig. 13 of the removable element B, illustrated in Fig. 9.

The folding camping trailer is operated in the following way. In the transport position the panes 2- 7 and other components are compactly folded and fixed in the body 1 which is connected to a transport vehicle.

The driver has unobstructed view of the road and the adjacent territory behind the motor vehicle and the trailer. After arrival to the place of unfolding the trailer is promptly brought into operational position (unfolds) in the following way:

Method one:

Without leaving the motor vehicle the driver pushes the trailer unfolding button on the console connected by an electrical cable with the automatic equipment of the trailer and according to a specified program the locks securing the roof 3 on the body

1 are successively opened, then, as shown in Fig. 9, the power cylinder 18 elevates the roof 3 with longitudinal panels 2, whereupon the power cylinders 23 are activated sequentially and elevate the panels 4, 5 and 6 that are fixed in the vertical position to the body 1 by the locks 27. Thereupon, as shown in Fig. 13, the panels 4, 5, 6 are additionally fixed with the help of the expansion and fixation mechanism 28 to the roof 3 and panels 2 are strained, whereupon the panel 10 is pulled manually out of the cavity 30 and is rotated until alignment with the panel 11 and the panel 12 is rotated until alignment with the panel 10 and the door 13 of the module II is closed. Further, the panels 7 taken out of the cavities 29 of the panels 5, 6 are brought in operating horizontal position; the removable cabinets 9 are installed on the windows of the panel 6, and the doors 17 are fixed to the inside of the cabinets.

Method two:

As shown in Fig. 7 the frame 21 is manually brought into vertical position and as shown in Fig. 8 with the help of the winch 22 the roof 3 is elevated with the longitudinal panels 2. The panels 4, 5, 6 are manually elevated and, as shown in Fig.

12, are fixed to the body by the mechanical lock 27. The operations of method one then apply.

The passenger is then able to connect the equipment of the utility module to local communications if there are any and stay in the camping trailer for some time. A construction of the camping trailer, which is compact, easy to use, large-sized in the operating condition and small-sized during transportation, is thus attained. The transverse panels bearing load from the roof and the longitudinal panels and containing halves of the berths, doors and additional panels, are attached to the trailer body after opening creating a firm carcass. The indicated solution makes it possible to disassemble the berth halves, doors, additional panels etc. without damaging the load-bearing structure of the trailer, improve rear view and simplify control of the car connected to the trailer.
