Abstract:
This following control device controls the lateral position of a host vehicle so that the host vehicle follows the lateral position, which is the position in the vehicle width direction, of a preceding vehicle that is traveling ahead of the host vehicle. A preceding vehicle traveling ahead of the host vehicle is detected, the amount of change in the lateral position of the preceding vehicle is detected, and the degree of following in the lateral position of the host vehicle is minimized according to the amount of change in the lateral position of the preceding vehicle.
