Abstract:
Provided are a forging method and closed forging mold that can reduce the closing force borne by the dies and can use relatively small closing devices even for large products. Tripod uniform motion universal joints using tripod members molded using such closed forging molds are also provided. Using a closed forging mold provided with closable dies (11, 12) and punches (14, 15) that press the material in said dies (11) and (12), a product (tripod member) (16) that has a boss part (18) and a shank (17) that protrudes radially from said boss part (18) is molded. The projected area of the boss part (18) in the direction of the boss axis toward the dies (11, 12) is made to be smaller than the projected area in the direction of the boss axis toward the dies when the outside surface is made into a convex surface with the boss part shaft center as the center.
