Abstract:
A forward monitoring device of an embodiment is provided with: a region setting unit which is mounted in a train and sets a stereoscopic monitoring region that is in front of the train to be updatable on the basis of input train velocity information and line information that corresponds to a traveling position of the train; a field angle setting unit which sets a field angle of an image capturing device, which captures an image of the front of the train, so that an image corresponding to the entire monitoring region has a prescribed size or larger in the captured image; an image acquisition unit which acquires, from the image capturing device, the image of the front of the train; and an obstacle determination unit which determines whether there is an obstacle in the monitoring region on the basis of the image. Accordingly, an obstacle, which is placed far away, and an obstacle, which is placed over a wide area, can be reliably detected, and miniaturization of the device can be attained.
