A forward osmosis treatment method comprising a forward osmosis treatment step using a forward osmosis module having a semipermeable membrane and a first chamber and a second chamber separated by the semipermeable membrane, and a cleaning step for cleaning the semipermeable membrane. In the forward osmosis treatment step, a feed solution is supplied to the first chamber, a draw solution having a higher osmotic pressure than the feed solution is supplied to the second chamber, and the feed solution and the draw solution are brought into contact with each other via the semipermeable membrane, whereby water included in the feed solution is moved into the draw solution, and the concentrated feed solution is discharged as a concentrated liquid from the first chamber. At least part of the concentrated liquid is stored in a tank. In the cleaning step, the concentrated liquid stored in the tank is caused to flow to the first chamber in the opposite direction of the flow of the feed solution in the forward osmosis step, and the draw solution is supplied to the second chamber, whereby the semipermeable membrane is cleaned.
