Title:
FREE PISTON COMPRESSION ENGINE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1983/004426
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A conventional free piston compression engine uses pneumatic springs to obtain the reciprocating motion of a piston, which causes losses. This free piston compression engine eleminates the pneumatic springs, thereby obtaining a high thermal efficiency. Three sets of unidirectional 2-cycle engines (1), (2), (7); (3), (4), (8); and (5), (6), (9) are disposed along the same line, the 2-cycle engines (1), (2), (7) and (5), (6), (9) disposed at the ends are operated with the phase difference of 180o with respect to the 2-cycle engines (3), (4), (8) disposed at the center, thereby obtaining the reciprocating motions of the pistons (10), (11). This compression engine can be utilized for a gas compression engine for various gases such as air, in particular, this can be utilized for a compressor which is required to have a large capacity and high thermal efficiency. This engine can also be utilized for the compressor of a gas generator such as a gas turbine engine.
