The present invention relates to a freezing point depression composition for preservation of cosmetics and a preparation method therefor and, more particularly, to a freezing point depression composition for preservation of cosmetics, which depresses freezing points of cosmetic compositions while maintaining chemical characteristics of the cosmetic compositions, whereby the cosmetic compositions can be prevented from being solidified with the decrease of external temperatures in the winter and summer seasons and can be thus kept in a liquid phase at room temperature, and a preparation method therefor. The freezing point depression composition for cosmetics according to the present invention employs 1,2-octanediol and a hydrocarbon-based material bearing a hydroxy group to maintain the cosmetics as a liquid phase thanks to the effect of depression of freezing point and exhibit the preservative power already retained by 1,2-octanediol. In addition, the composition can be a promising preservative capable of substituting for parabens, phenoxyethanol, and the like, which have been used as conventional cosmetic composition preservatives but which are harmful to the human body and cause skin irritation, allergy, and the like.
