Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a novel friction damper that demonstrates a combination of a damping function, a displacement/deformation limitation function, and a restoration function and that is based on a new principle. [Solution] This friction damper 1 is characterized by being provided with two tension members 3 which are twisted around each other inside a compression elastic body 2, wherein: end parts on one side of the tension members 3 are attached to an end part 20 on one side of the compression elastic body 2, and end parts on the other side of the tension members 3 are pulled to the outside from the end part 20 on the other side of the compression elastic body 2 so as to act as tension action parts 31; the compression elastic body 2 is compressed due to tensile loads applied to the tension action parts 31; friction resistance that is dependent upon the tensile loads is generated by the tension members 3 (twisted part 35); and when the tensile loads are removed, the original state is restored due to the elasticity of the compression elastic body 2.
