Abstract:

Disclosed is a friction stir welding apparatus (1) wherein, during welding in which a welding tool (4) moves while rotating and presses a part (3) to be welded of an object (2) to be welded, a temperature measurement point (T) is provided on a backing member (21) which abuts the opposite side of the part (3) to be welded to that of the welding tool (4) in order to support the object (2) to be welded. The friction stir welding apparatus (1) is further provided with: a thermocouple (34) and a temperature gauge (35) for detecting the temperature at the temperature measurement point (T); a temperature monitoring means (53) for calculating the estimated temperature of the welding tool (4) from the temperature detected at the temperature measurement point (T), in accordance with the correlation between a preset temperature of the welding tool (4) and the temperature of the backing member (21); and a control means (51) for carrying out prescribed processing such that the welding tool (4) does not overheat, in accordance with the temperature of the welding tool (4).
