Abstract:
Provided is a friction stir welding method whereby: a pre-heating treatment process is performed in which a steel plate being a material to be machined is heated by a heating means provided in front of a rotation tool that moves in a welding direction; and the surface temperature, area, and position, etc., of a heating zone can be minutely controlled during the pre-heating treatment process. During friction stir welding of structural steel: a rotation tool is used that has a raw material having a dynamic friction coefficient for steel plates of no more than 0.6; and at least 65% of the area of the heating zone heated by the heating means provided in front of the rotation tool is positioned between a welding center line and a straight line parallel to the welding center line and separated towards a retreating side by a distance the same as the maximum diameter of a pin section of the rotation tool, said welding center line being a straight line passing through the rotation axis of the rotation tool and parallel to the welding direction, on the surface of the steel plate.
