Abstract:
Provided are a friction welding method and device whereby plastic flow defects caused by insufficient heating of a material to be machined are effectively eliminated, sufficient strength is obtained, and bonding workability is improved. During friction stir welding of structural steel: a rotation tool is used that has a raw material having a dynamic friction coefficient for steel plates of no more than 0.6; the rotation tool is arranged on one surface side and the other surface side of the steel plate; and at least 65% of the area of a heating zone to be heated by the heating means provided in front of the rotation tool is positioned between a welding center line and a straight line that is parallel to the welding center line and separated towards a retreating side by a distance the same as the maximum diameter of a pin section of the rotation tool, said welding center line being a straight line on the surface of the steel plate, that passes through the rotation axis of the rotation tool and is parallel to the welding direction.
