Abstract:
Provided are a friction stir welding method and a welded structure that can suppress reductions in welding strength because of exit holes left when the tool is withdrawn and occurrences of leaks without increasing the size or complexity of the welded structure. The friction stir welding method has: a step for preparing a metal member (4) to be welded; a step for preparing a welding tool (1) constituted of a truncated cone shaped shoulder part (2) and a conical probe part (3) provided on an upper base, which is the tip of the shoulder part (2); a step for rotating and inserting the welding tool (1) into a start edge for carrying out friction stir welding of the member (4) to be welded; a step for stirring the welding part of the member (4) to be welded while rotating the welding tool (1); and a step for removing the welding tool (1) from the end edge of the friction stir welding by lifting up the welding tool (1) in a direction inclined to the member (4) to be welded while moving the welding tool (1) in the welding direction along the welding line such that the depth of the weld gradually becomes shallower.
