Abstract:
Provided is a friction welding method having a heating step in which, letting opposing end surfaces of a pair of materials (W1, W2) grasped respectively by a pair of main shafts (3a, 3b) that face each other be mated surfaces (S1, S2), the pair of materials (W1, W2) is moved to a prescribed position while bringing the mated surfaces (S1, S2) into contact with each other in a direction such that the respective shafts for the pair of materials (W1, W2) line up with each other from a state in which the shafts are offset from each other and is friction heated, and a pressure welding step in which the pair of materials (W1, W2) is pressure welded at the prescribed position, said friction welding method being characterized in that the heating step and the pressure welding step are carried out while rotating each of the materials (W1, W2) at the same rotational speed in the same direction when viewed from one side in the direction of the shafts. Also provided is a machine tool (1) for implementing the friction welding method.
